I smell salty seawater and the sun beaming down on my skin. All I could feel was a throbbing pain in the back of my head. I open my eyes and see nothing but the ocean. I’m on a raft. “What did I do this time?” I say, knowing no one can hear me. I was known for getting myself into bad situations, and also known for getting out of them. I look around my tiny wooden raft, and there is a small chest with two notes, a map, a scarce amount of food, and three water bottles. I open the first note, desperate for information. It shows what I’ve been asking for. It reads:
Dear Jacob,
The Chinese got to us as we were trying to cross their territory as we went from Australia. We washed up on an island and spent 10 days making the raft that you are on right now. We were trying to deliver a message to Japan after our electronics got cut out by the Chinese. We are all badly injured and 30 out of 40 died on the boat. Whatever you do, deliver the note. It shows all our war plans. China can not see it. No matter what.
From, Teddy
I have to go all the way to Japan. Great. The sun is already setting and I do not want to be here at night. I go 2 to 3 hours North and find my savior. Minna island. I get to the shore and feel a wave of relief roll over me. Exhausted, I fall asleep immediately.
I wake up very sad. “I don’t want to do this!” I yell, knowing nobody is there.
“You don’t want to do what?” A strange high pitched voice says, startling me. I took Japanese in highschool. It was a small, old Japanese lady, “I saw you asleep on the beach, with a wound on your head. I patched you up”, she says.. I touch the back of my head. The rough back of the bandage feels scratchy on my finger.
“So what don’t you want to do?” She says. “Nothing”, I say, wanting no part of this granny.
“You look terrible, I have leftover okonomiyaki and drinks. I have no clue what that is, but i’m in.
The days at sea suck. I hate that I have to do this. There are so many chances of dying. The chinese finding me, a shark attacking me, running out of food or water, and much more. Thankfully, that lady saved my butt earlier, but I have to be careful. I arrived at Hokuhoku Seiko island, and this is the one that I will get a ton of supplies.
I get to the island at near dawn and get to work. I get to the trees fast and start tearing at the branches. I start sharpening one of the branches and get to the water. I start throwing like crazy and as I’m just about to give up, I hit a crab. Then I get on a hot streak. It’s like i’m hot in basketball but for killing crabs. Haha, i’m going insane. I get some more sticks and try to start a fire. God this sucks. I finally get it and the sun is already setting. I quickly cook all my crab and store it, then purify some water.
It’s morning, and I want to quit more than ever. I have to do this for America or whatever though.
I get back on the raft very sadly. I set off for a while and see a ship. Uh oh. I may or may not be done for. I can’t quite make out the flag but this is not good regardless. My tiny raft’s speed does not even compare to the speed of the giant ship. I almost forgot to grab the “Very important note” but I swiftly grab it from the chest. The massive ship swallows my raft like the death star eating up the small spaceships. I have never felt this way before. So frightened yet so determined. That is when I find my opening. I dive right under the closing gate and swim. I am so close, yet so far. Never in my 29 years of life have I had to swim this far. I am so close, so close. I finally get to the island, absolutely gassed. I just then realized I was being followed. Yokoate island is very diverse. It looks like a 2nd grade fish drawing. You know what I mean. I run past the little connector part and forget one key part. It’s a volcano. I turn back and hide in a pot hole. After two minutes I see the first Chinese soldier. I then realize that I will have to kill him. Whatever you do, deliver the note. I grab onto his neck and pull. One bad thing is that he has a gun. That is another uh oh. He shoots my left thigh and a searing hot pain shoots through my whole leg. That doesn’t stop my grip on his airways. He soon falls to the ground, lifeless. I want to cry. I want to go home. But I can’t. I hobble as fast as I can towards the volcano. There are too many soldiers. I run into a big clump of them and freeze. I am either dead or held hostage, let’s just say neither are ideal. They seem to know I have the note, sticking their hands out while training their weapons on me. I don’t think I’m getting out of this bad situation. The problem for them is, I am as stubborn as a mule. (Whatever that means). I think about what I am about to do. This could go down in history as the most badass thing ever. I pull the note from my pocket and stuff it down my throat. I breathe my last breaths of air as I get shot down by the soldiers.
